Blacksburg senior running back Chase Hames had a career night as he carried the ball 45 times for 444 yards, almost doubling his total offensive yards for the season. Hames rushed for four touchdowns and had a touchdown reception for 34 yards.
Hames wasted no time scoring with around eight minutes left in the first quarter with a 34 yard touchdown pass from Treyvon Parker to lead 7-0.
Hames then ran for a 31 yard touchdown with about four minutes left in the first. The Wildcats were successful on a two-point conversion with a Parker rush bringing their lead to 15-0.
Liberty’s first score came with three minutes left in the first when Phillip Rainwater had a 1-yard run for a touchdown tightening Blacksburg’s lead to eight.
Blacksburg would score once more in the second, but Liberty would bring on the excitement scoring on a Rainwater 1-yard run and bringing the game within two going into the half when Liberty’s Brandon Wiles sprinted 75 yards into the inzone. Liberty tried for two to tie the game, but failed making the game 22-20 Blacksburg at the half.
Blacksburg rolled over the Red Devils for the remainder of the game, with Liberty’s next and only score coming with only 2:38 left in the game.
Blacksburg (2-2) would win the game 41-27, leaving Liberty (0-4) still searching for their first win of the season.
The Wildcats will travel to Southside Christian (1-3) on Friday. Liberty will host Landrum (2-2).
