JAKARTA, Indonesia — Baseball is sometimes funny in what is and is not important.

In the Asia-Pacific Regional Tournament Wednesday, the Philippines played Guam in the final game of pool play.

With both teams entering the game with 2-0 records in the tournament, each has clinched a spot in Thursday’s championship game. So Wednesday’s game basically determined which team will come into Thursday’s game as the “home team,” batting last and occupying the third base dugout.

The Philippines defeated Guam 13-8 Wednesday. The two teams will meet again on Thursday to determine who represents Asia-Pacific in the Big League World Series.
