PIEDMONT—Although it was not enough to get the Hurricanes into the post season, the Wren High basketball team ended the season on hot streak that included a dominating win over Palmetto on senior night.

The Hurricanes wrap up the 2013 campaign with an overall record of 10-14 and an 8-7 record in the region.

Coming into the Feb. 7 season finale against Palmetto, Wren had won three in a row. After falling to Daniel, the Hurricanes took down West-Oak, Walhalla and Belton Honea Path to gain momentum heading into February.

Wren capped the year with a 40 point win over the Mustangs.

Out of the gate it was all Wren. The Hurricanes scored early and often, building a substansial halftime lead that would propel them to an easy win over rival Palmetto.

Shaq Palmer had the big night for Wren with 11 points on the evening. Jared Swavely added 11 of his own to the win, while Mike Stone was the third Hurricane in double-figures with 10. Cam Gilreath contributed eight and Jordan Phillips added five on the night.

With their tenth win of the season, Wren shows vast improvement in what could have been a lost season.

The Hurricanes slumped at the end of December, dropping four games in a row including losses to cross-town rival Easley and TL Hanna.

Wren reclassified this season to Region AAA and faced several opponents the team had not seen in years, according to head coach Fran Campbell.

The Wren High girls are currently making a post-season push of their own boasting a number one seed in the Upper State playoffs.
