It is Friday, Feb. 8, and before the gathering of years can further tarnish our public recollection, the Easley Progress will shake off the red rust of time and open up the archives to February of 1957.
The Progress reported that Easley High student, Charlotte Griffith, had been named “Betty Crocker Homemaker of tomorrow”.
The article detailed that she had scored the highest on a written examination of homemaking knowledge.
The Progress also featured a headline that read:
“Easley High seniors of ’37 plan reunion”
The article detailed that members of the 1937 class at Easley High School were planning their 20 year reunion.
In local sports, 60 golfers participated in the Pro-Am Golf Tournament at the Pickens County Country Club.
The Easley Drive-In was showing “The African Queen” starring Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn, and “That Certain Feeling” starring Bob Hope and Eva Marie Saint.
Several advertisements were also featured.
Oldsmobile announced its new J-2 Rocket.
“It’s the most exciting engine development since the first rocket was launched.”
Easley Hardware announced its February special with four all-purpose boxes of Miracle Sponges being sold for just 98 cents.
In other news, the first Nuclear-Powered submarine called the Nautilus, registered its 60,000th nautical mile and matched the endurance of its fictional counterpart in Jules Verne’s, “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea”.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested Jimmy Hoffa and charged him with Bribery, and Elvis Pressley bought Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee for $100,000.
The Easley Progress was in its 55th year and sold for $3.00 per year and 10 cents per copy.
