PICKENS COUNTY – Lifelong resident of Pickens County and 1980 graduate of Easley High School, Lt. Tony Gilstrap of the Pickens County Sherriff’s Office, is now in a position to make a difference in his community.
“I want to make a difference in my community and to help out its people, and if I can make the difference for one of those people, then I have made my contribution,”Gilstrap said.
Gilstrap is a 1988 graduate of Tri-County Technical College with an associate’s degree in management and a 1999 graduate with an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice.
He began his career in law enforcement in 1992 for the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office as a reserve officer.
Gilstrap began his full-time career in 1995 and graduated from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy that same year.
He was promoted to sergeant in 2001 and was promoted to lieutenant in 2011.
Gilstrap is data master certified and is a basic instructor for a variety of officer’s duties.
He is also a married father of two.
