It is Friday, Feb. 1, and before the gathering of years can further tarnish our public recollection, the Easley Progress will shake off the red rust of time and open up the archives to February of 1961.
The front page reported that Ann Mull of Easley had been named Senior of the Month at Carey College in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
The Progress also featured a headline that read:
“Lemon Bush Here Produces King-Sized Fruit”
The article detailed that several members of school faculty in Easley had grown a lemon bush that produced a lemon that was converted into three lemon pies and ten ounces of juice.
The Colony Theatre in Easley was showing “It’s Only Money” starring Jerry Lewis and “The Manchurian Candidate” starring Frank Sinatra.
Several advertisements were also featured.
Wrenn and Syracuse sold steak for .49 cents a pound and two dozen eggs for 89 cents.
Crane Chevrolet of Easley announced Chevrolet truck quality.
“You can see the difference wherever you look”
“Just call us to test drive one of the new reliables”
In other news, John F. Kennedy would remain President of the United States until his assassination in Dallas Texas on November 22, 1963, and the RMS Titanic had been beneath the waves of the northern Atlantic for 51 years.
The Easley Progress was in its 62nd year.
