Melissa Looper, longtime Pickens County educator, celebrated her 100th birthday over several days recently with family and friends. A resident of Magnolias of Easley, Looper celebrated with staff and friends at the facility and received 100 red roses. Family arrived for another celebration on the date of her birth, Dec. 21. She is shown above left days before her 100th birthday. At right is a photo of Looper nearing retirement as an English teacher at Easley High School in 1974. She also worked at the old Vinland School and Dacusville Elementary School. She was married to Clyde Looper. She says she owes her longevity never having smoked, drunk alcohol or taken illegal drugs. She also has a good genetic line, having a grandmother, Melissa Williams of Easley, who lived to be 100 in 1960.
