PIEDMONT—The Wren High basketball team dropped its first home contest of the season last week, falling to TL Hanna in a rivalry game by a score of 76-55.

The Golden Hurricanes dealt with pressure from Hanna throughout the entire game, as Yellow Jacket standout Jameel Taylor scored 18 points in the first half to build a substantial lead. Hot shooting from Dalton Freeman kept Wren close, as he recorded in 11 of his 17 points in the first two periods.

Wren went into the half down 35-26.

Coming out of the break, it was all Hanna. The Yellow Jackets extended their lead to 14 in the third quarter, and blew the game wide open in the fourth.

Hanna received back to back three-pointers to open the final period, while Wren struggled to get anything going against the pressure defense.

Jordan Phillips had a solid game for the Hurricanes, contributing 16 points to the effort.

Wren hosted its first region game of the season on Thursday night against Emerald (results were not available at press time), and will face Easley High on Saturday on the road.

Wren now heads into one of the most important stretches of its season, with six of the next eight contests being region games.
