PICKENS COUNTY—Signups are still underway for a camp that offers some unique services to the children of Pickens County.
Camp Braveheart is designed for children, ages 7-14, who have experienced the loss of a loved one. This year’s camp is set for Friday, August 10, through Sunday August 12.
“Experiencing a loss at any age is difficult, but is especially hard on a child,” said Camp Site Director Melissa Henderson. “Camp Braveheart is run by clinical experts who understand the healing process and who care about the children that are left behind.”
Regardless of the type of loss or the reason for the loss, all children throughout the area are invited to apply to attend. There is no charge to attend the camp and Henderson says she would strongly encourage all children experiencing the trauma of a loss to consider Camp Braveheart.
“While the emphasis is on healing, there is play time as well,” said Henderson. “The children will participate in indoor and outdoor activities, such as arts and crafts, field games, and swimming. Children will also have the opportunity to honor the people they have lost with a very special memorial service.”
The camp will be held at Camp Marietta, located in Marietta, S.C. Camp applications will be accepted until August 1, and are available at www.gentiva.com/hospice/camps.
