PICKENS COUNTY — Seven graduates, representative of each of the four high schools in the district’s class of 2015, have moved one step closer to becoming future educators themselves by earning the School District of Pickens County Teacher Forum Educational Scholarship.

The SDPC “Teacher Forum” is an organization comprised of the teachers of the year from each school. Together, the forum works with their colleagues throughout the entire district raising funds to make the scholarships possible. Currently, that comes to $2,000 for winners and $1,000 for runners up.

“The scholarships are awarded to graduating senior Teacher Cadets from each Pickens County high school,” said John Eby, public information specialist for the School District of Pickens County. “The seniors selected must have completed a Teacher Cadet course as a junior or senior and (the students) must be planning to attend (either) a four-year college, or technical college and then transfer to a four–year college.”

In addition, the university must be in South Carolina and the students are required to declare a major in education to qualify.

Victoria Sheriff was the winner from Easley High School and Rollins Fish was runner up. Anna Lightsey took home the top honor from Daniel High School, with Cassidy Tallman nabbing the runner up spot. Pickens High School named Allie Strickland the winner with Aaron Gravely as runner up. Jordan Kirby was named this year’s Teacher Forum Scholarship winner from Liberty High School.
