POWDERSVILLE – The Powdersville Medical Center will offer a variety of services to the community and will include the Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas.

“Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas will be one part of the services offered at the facility. Steadman Hawkins is an orthopaedic surgery practice. My area of expertise is arthroscopic surgery mainly of the shoulder and the knee, and also, replacement of those joints,” said C. Curtis Elliott, MD, surgeon at Steadman Hawkins Clinic. “We care for injuries of muscles, ligaments, and joints, whether they be sports related or not and also fracture care and trauma care.”

Dr. Elliott believes that access to this standard of orthopaedic care will benefit the community.

“It allows the citizens of Easley and Powdersville to have access to a higher level of orthopaedic care without having to travel to either Greenville or another larger facility and place, said Elliott. “Hopefully, being in the community where the citizens live will make it much easier for them to get that care.”

According to officials, the Steadman Hawkins Clinic will offer a variety of options for orthopaedic care.

“Within the Steadman Hawkins phase, we are going to have two of the providers basically splitting time. One is primary care sports medicine, or non-operative orthopaedics, which will allow folks to be seen quickly when Dr. Elliott is not available,” said Ben Gecewich, director of operations for Greenville Hospital System, department of orthopaedics. “We can offer all kinds of non-operative care and operative care, and everything in between.”

Dr. Elliott would like to see the facility grow to include a larger array of services.

“We hope that it will grow and potentially offer additional orthopaedic services other than sports medicine such as total joint replacement so the citizens won’t have to travel,” said Elliott.

Officials believe that the growth of Powdersville will walk hand-in-hand with the growth of the clinic.

“Folks are seeing that Powdersville is a really good place to live and it’s got the best of both worlds. It’s got a small town feel, but it is close to everything you need. It is developing its own identity as a community,” Gecewich said. “We are starting with a pretty full-service orthopaedic practice and I think it is really going to be driven by the community.”

The clinic will provide the following services:

Sports Medicine, arthroscopic/minimally invasive surgery, Arthritis and joint restoration, joint repair and replacement, fracture care, rotator cuff injuries, hand surgery, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) repair, and complex knee and shoulder repair.

The clinic will be open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
