PICKENS – The Pickens Revitalization Association has now been officially accredited as a National Main Street Program by the National Main Street Center and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

“The PRA is very proud to have received this recognition,” said PRA Executive Director Allison Fowler. “It will enable us to continue our efforts in the revitalization of downtown Pickens.”

The PRA is annually evaluated by Main Street South Carolina and the National Main Street Center.

“We congratulate this year’s nationally accredited Main Street programs for meeting our established performance standards,” said Valecia Crisafulli, acting director of the National Main Street Center. “Accredited Main Street programs are meeting the challenges of the downtown in the economy head on and are successfully using a focused, comprehensive revitalization strategy to keep their communities vibrant and sustainable.”

The evaluation is based on 10 performance standards issued by the National Main Street Center.

“These 10 standards relate to the way we operate, our organization, our board of directors, our budget, and the goals we have for the program each year,” Fowler said. “The ten standards include community support, developed vision and mission statements, comprehensive work plans, historic preservation ethic, active board of directors, adequate operating budget, a paid manager, ongoing training for staff and volunteers, statistical reports, and membership in the National Trust Main Street Network.”

Fowler expressed her gratitude in the national recognition and its corresponding non-profit certification received by the PRA.

“The Pickens Revitalization Association is very pleased to receive this accreditation, as it allows us to move forward with plans for revitalizing Pickens,” Fowler said. “In addition, we are thrilled that this news comes alongside our official 501(c) (3) certification, making the Pickens Revitalization Association a tax-deductible organization. We are very excited about all that these awards afford our organization and community as we work to enhance Pickens.”
