4-H for summer fun

Please see 4-H Summer Fun Schedule for Anderson, Oconee, Greenville and Pickens Counties. Added are day camping opportunities from the surrounding counties on the list of camps for this summer, in an effort to offer more of a variety of programs to those who don’t mind traveling.

JUNE SCHEDULE

Vermicomposting June 1 Time: 9a.m.-noon

Ages: 8-12 Location: Oconee County Extension Office $20

Kids will build their own worm bin to take home and will receive a Soil and Water project book. Snacks included.

Archery Shoot June 7 Time: 9a.m.-11a.m.

Ages: 8-18 Location: 136 McGaha Rd, Easley $10

Learn basic archery techniques. Practice shooting. A snack and water will be served. Please wear sunscreen as we will be outside.

4-H20 Camp June 10-13 Time: 9a.m.-3p.m.

Ages: 9-13 Location: Twin Lakes Park, Clemson $75

Have fun exploring Lake Hartwell. Learn about what lives in the water, where our water comes from and the animals who share our water!

Cloverbud Camp June 17-19 Time: 9a.m.-Noon

Ages: 5-8 Location: Greenville Extension Office $30

Discover 4-H as you join us for 3 days of Cloverbud fun: arts & crafts, gardening, healthy snacks, photography, science and more!

Cloverbud June 17, 18, 20, 21 Ages: 5-8

OVERNIGHT CAMP at 4-H Camp Long, Aiken, SC

$250 for 4-H members, $260 for non-members.

Horseless Horse Camp

New Riders: June 24-28, 2013. Returning Riders: July 22-26, 2013. Ages: 7 – 18; Cost: $200 / week; Time: 8:30 am – 12:30 pm. *Each day will include : Riding, Crafts & a Knowledge Based Activity. Forestry Workshop June 25-27 Time: 9a.m.-3p.m.

Ages: 14-18 Location: Piedmont Forest Center $50

Outdoor 3 day Forestry Workshop. Learn local tree species, compass & pacing, tree measurement, problem insects and diseases of the forest, water quality, prescribed fire and more.

Pirates June 28 Time: 1p.m.-3p.m. Ages: 7-9

Location: Pickens 4-H Office $ 10

Have a craving to learn about Pirates? Learn terms used on ships, hear about Carolina pirates and sing pirate songs! Each new pirate recruit will take home some Pirate treasure!

JULY SCHEDULE

Biltmore trip! July 2 Time: 9a.m.-6p.m. Ages: 13-15 $25

Location: Meet at Pickens office for our trip. We will be back by 6p.m.

Brownie Day (for Girl Scouts) July 8 9a.m.-Noon Ages 6-8

Location: TBD, Easley $10

Brownie Girl Scouts will complete requirements for the Pets and Bugs badges.

Water Ecology July 9-11 Time: 9:30a.m.-12:30p.m.

Ages: 9-13 Location: Greenville Extension Office $30

Learn about your watershed and the quality of the water around us as you perform water sampling and analyses on our own Reedy River, learn native plant and insect identification, discuss conservation and the effects of pollution on the environment. Bring your own lunch; snacks will be provided.

Soft Cheese Making July 12 Time 10a.m.-5p.m.

Location: Pickens 4-H Office Cost: $50

(Ages 15 and Adults welcome) Learn to make your own soft cheese!!

Jr Forestry Workshop July 16-18 Time: 9a.m.-3p.m.

Ages: 9-13 Location: Piedmont Forest Center Cost: $50

July 22 Time: 6p.m.-9p.m. Age: Teens only

Location: Pickens Extension Office Cost: $10

Come and watch a movie from the 1980’s and make your own dinner. Spend time getting to know other 4-H teens.

Enjoying the Outdoors (Outdoor Skills) July 26-27

July 26: 9:30a.m.-3:30p.m. Location: Greenville Extension Office

July 27: 9:30a.m.-until Location: Jones Gap State Park

Ages: 10-13 $15 plus park admission

Come learn the basics behind a safe, but fun hiking/backpacking adventure! Build a first aid kit, learn what to pack for an outdoor excursion, learn how to use a compass and GPS receiver and much more! Then enjoy a leisurely hike at Jones Gap State Park. *Parent/guardian must accompany youth on the hike.*

Adventures in Science Camp July 30-Aug 1 1p.m.-4p.m.

Ages: 9-12 Location: Greenville Extension Office Cost: $30

Explore rocketry, robotics, electricity/alternative energy, and more! Also test out National 4-H science experiments of present and past.

Kids in the Kitchen July 30, 31 10a.m.-1p.m.

Ages: 9-13 Location: Anderson County Extension Office

$15 per session

July 30 and 31st will be separate sessions with different cooking projects. Learn how to get around in your kitchen and wow your family with your new skills.

AUGUST SCHEDULE

Manners Matter/No Pigs Allowed Aug 1 Ages 9-13

Photography Aug 6 Time: 9a.m.-Noon

Ages: 9-14 Location: Greenville Extension Office

Cost: $8 Enjoy the morning practicing digital camera basics, camera tricks & a photo shoot in Falls Park. Digital cameras and snacks provided. Participants will receive an electronic copy of pictures taken.

Flower Arranging Aug 6 Time: 9a.m.-Noon

Ages: 9-13 $15 Location: Anderson Extension Office

Design a flower arrangement and take it home to decorate your house.

Vermiculture- All About Worms Aug 7 Time: 9a.m.-Noon

Ages 9-13 $15 Location: Anderson Extension Office

Build your own worm bed and find out why these are useful creatures!

Learn Local/Shop Local Aug 8 Ages 9-13 Learn about local produce and how to use what you can find at the farmer’s market. Call the Anderson Extension Office in early July for more information.

Girl Scout Junior Day Aug 9 Time: 9a.m.-2p.m.

Location: TBA Easley Cost: $20

Work on your FLOWERS and ANIMAL HABITATS badges. You will build your own birdhouse to take home too!

Cloverbud Cooking Aug 16 Time: 9a.m.-Noon

Ages: 5-8 Location: Pickens 4-H Office Cost: $15

Learn basic cooking skills. Make your own lunch!!
