EASLEY – After 73 years off of Pendleton Street, Easley High School is now entering the second half of its first year at the new location.

“We finally feel real comfortable with the building, how it operates and how it moves. We will make some adjustments to student schedules and starting next week, we start the new semester,” said Easley High Principal, Dr. Tim Mullis. “It has been a real learning experience, but at the end of the day we are in a brand new building and it’s hard to beat that.”

Mullis expressed the many challenges of moving into a new school.

“The unknowns like when we were going to get teachers up here and set their classrooms up and just trying to figure out how the new things were going to work,” Mullis said. “There have been other schools opened in the county, but until you open your own and deal with those problems, you just don’t know.”

Mullis also talked about the advantages of having state-of-the-art facilities.

“We have a safe and secure location now. Everybody has to come through the main office and check in, so as far as a safety concern, we don’t have as many people coming in like people did at the old school. We didn’t have a lot of control of the doors there, and here, we do” Mullis said. “We have camera systems set up so we can see people coming and going.”

Along with a new building, the new location features modern athletic facilities for the Green Wave football team.

“It has been awesome. I know we had a few issues at the first of the year trying to get the parking problem repaired. But it was great, we packed the place out every home game,” Mullis said. “The excitement was in the air and I was glad that all Green Wave supporters came here and embraced us.”

The new athletic facilities also provide an opportunity for fans to see multiple sports in the same night.

“It was great to be able to go to a basketball game and then sneak right next door and watch a wrestling match. Fans coming in could do that. For one price, they can come in and see two events,” Mullis said.

According to Mullis, the students of Easley High School are also excited about the new location.

“Walking down the halls, the students are excited. You can see it in their faces. They like the building and they take a lot of pride in it,” Mullis said.
