Pinkham honored

PICKENS COUNTY – Jaclyn Pinkham, volunteer coordinator for Miracle Hill Ministries, has won the Volunteer Administrator of the Year Award from the South Carolina Association for Volunteer Administration.

Pinkham currently serves as the USCAVA vice chair and the SCAVA secretary. Her colleagues wrote a review of her commitment to the agency and her community. These factors were taken into account when selecting the winner.

“Being nominated and selected as the Volunteer Administrator of the year was a humbling experience and huge honor. I know that the success I’ve had as a volunteer administrator is due to the amazing team I work with at Miracle Hill and their passion and daily commitment to involve volunteers. I love my job and truly appreciate every individual and group that dedicates their time to our ministry and clients,” she said.

Miracle Hill is the largest and most comprehensive provider of shelter and food to homeless children and adults in Upstate South Carolina. The organization houses, clothes, feeds and offers counseling and spiritual support to an average 560 struggling individuals each day through outreaches located in Greenville, Pickens, Spartanburg and Cherokee counties.

Blue Ridge meeting

PICKENS — An estimated crowd of 5,000 was present for Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative’s 76th annual meeting of members at the utility’s equipment facility in Pickens. The event registered almost 3,000 Blue Ridge members.

Three musical groups entertained prior to the business meeting: Pickens County’s Sweet Potato Pie Kids, as well as Conservation Theory and Doyle Burton and the Silver Dollar Gang, both from Oconee County. Tennessee’s Gold City Gospel Quartet performed following the business meeting.

Blue Ridge President and CEO Charles Dalton cited several economic-development projects that were adding significant electrical load to the cooperative’s system. He noted that the co-op was beefing up power lines and energizing new substations to meet these and other added demands for service.

Dalton also referenced the $1,000,000 in capital-credit refunds that were mailed to Blue Ridge members in mid-April.

Incumbent directors Joel Davis of Oconee County, Pickens County’s Spencer Dalton, and Kenneth Southerlin representing Greenville and Spartanburg counties were reelected by acclamation to new three year terms.

Stephen Jewell of Liberty was the winner of the grand prize, a 2007 Dodge Ram pick-up truck. The meeting was held April 28.
