Not many athletes can say their name is forever etched into their high school’s history books, but the ones that can will certainly have a story to tell.
The Easley High Athletic Hall of Fame inducted five new members Friday evening, and each one can now say they were the best at what they did.
That’s a big deal.
I remember my high school football career. I put in many hours of practice, hard work, preparation, but I was lucky to get a tackle or see the inside of a huddle on Friday night.
I never had the talent to pad my stats or be considered for any type of historical remembrance. That’s why I have so much respect for the guys and girls that do.
At Easley High, athletics are on another level. They always have been, and this growing community continues to pour into its sports with support and an undying love for their hometown school.
That’s what these five new Hall of Famers can say they were apart of. Whether it was on the football field, baseball diamond, track or in the gymnasium, these five put in the hard work and did things their classmates simply weren’t capable of.
Most of them thanked their coaches.
Each of the five expressed an appreciation for their leadership while at the school, which gives me a hint as to where all of this success comes from.
Easley isn’t just a school full of successful athletes and gifted students, they are coached that way. These players were so successful because the people around them prepared them to be successful.
It takes hard work and a lot of effort to have success in sports, but it takes even more support to carry those things out on the football field. As one inductee said, “This night belongs to the coaches as much as anyone.”
I couldn’t agree more. It’s the coaches, parents, community members and teammates that give these athletes an everlasting story to tell.
Because of them, these five Easley High grads are now apart of the Hall of Fame.
