PICKENS COUNTY- County Councilman Jeff Martin introduced his likely successor, Ensley Feemster, at the Pickens County Council meeting on Mon. Aug. 18. Feemster is currently running unopposed for the councilman’s 1st district seat, and is expected to take over next year.

Also introduced during the County Administrator’s Report was the new Prison Director, Drew Sisco. Sisco spent a little over nine years at the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office and was named Officer of the Year in 2008.

A motion to allocate $2,000 from the general contingency fund to commission a portrait of Judge Eddie Wellmaker was put before the council. Wellmaker was the 3rd judge from Pickens County to preside over the 13th district court in the past 100 years. The motion was seconded and has been sent to be addressed by the county’s administrative finance committee.

In other business, there was a first reading of Ordinance No. 481 for the issuance and sale of a (not exceeding) $700,000 general obligation bond, series 2015 of Pickens County, to prescribe the purposes for which the proceeds shall be expended, to provide for the payment thereof and other matters relating thereto. The passing of Resolution No. 2014-03, which was to express the intention of the County Council to be reimbursed for certain costs with the proceeds of tax-exempt obligations, and a second reading and public hearing for Ordinance No. 480 to amend the agreement for development of joint county and industrial park dated Nov. 4 1996 by and between Greenville County and Pickens County providing for the development of a jointly owned and operated industrial/business park.

Also approved was the addition of Denton Drive to be added to the minimum maintenance program.
