CENTRAL – The Southern Wesleyan Fine Arts Series will start its spring schedule with an event Feb. 3 at 7:30 p.m. that will take a look at art as a valuable resource useful for reflection on what’s important in life.

Art curator and consultant Rob Colby will guide this discussion of Christian art, where participants will learn about the works and their respective cultures and contexts, share their visual observations and examine what these images can mean to them.

Colby holds a Ph.D. in art history from the Courtauld Institute in London and his recent research includes the theory and practice of art perception.

He is currently working on a book that re-examines the aesthetic philosophy of the famous art critic Bernard Berenson (1865-1959), for which he has received fellowships from the Harvard Center for Italian Renaissance Studies in Florence and the Americana Philosophical Society.

He is currently a visiting research professor at the University of North Carolina School of Social Work, where he contributes to research on the use of visual materials in social work interventions, including a project funded by the National Institutes of Health.

The discussion will be held in The Founders, located on the lower level of the University Dining Commons on Southern Wesleyan’s Central Campus. Admission is free. For details, call 864-644-5404.
