CENTRAL— Daniel’s Jae’lon Oglesby scored touchdowns on three of the six times he touched the ball to lead the Lions to a 33-0 first half lead and an 40-3 win over Pickens in the first round of the State AAA playoffs last Friday night. nly touched the ball six times Friday night in the Lions’ 40-3 win over Daniel in the first round of the State AAA playoffs Friday night.

But, he made every one count.

Oglesby, who holds the school single game rushing rushing record of 380 yards, only ran the ball once in the game, but it was a 53-yard touchdown in the second quarter. He also had five catches at wide receiver, including 50 and 70-yard touchdowns, also in the second quarter.

“He’s just a match-up problem,” Lions coach Randy Robinson said of Oglesby. “We put him at receiver and they better double cover him or he’s going to make some big plays like he did tonight. He got a carry tonight, so he should be good. We had certain packages to put him at running back and we didn’t use those tonight. We want to keep him healthy for the stretch drive.”

Robinson said he was pleased with his team’s play on offense and defense against the Blue Flame.

“We kind of jumped out ahead early and that obviously helped,” he said. “As far the game itself, I felt good about the way we played. The offensive line play was a lot better. I’m proud of our defensive front. (Pickens) ran it right at us and I am proud of the way our defensive front responded.”

Daniel took the lead in the early minutes of the game getting a 7-0 lead on a 15-yard pass from Andy McCall to Noah Preisch to take a 7-0 lead. McCall got a one-yard touchdown on the first play of the second quarter and then Oglesby scored three touchdowns in the last nine minutes of the second quarter to give the Lions a 32-0 lead at the half.

Daniel got a 32-yard touchdown pass from McCall to Preisch early in the third quarter to take a 40-0 lead. At that point, Robinson began playing reserves on offense.

Pickens quarterback Elijah Turner led the Blue Flame down the field and actually got to the three-yard line with a first and goal situation. But, the Lion defense held off the Blue Flame as Pickens running back Austin Clark was stopped at the two-yard line on a fourth down situation..

Turner took Pickens down the field again on its next possession. This time the Blue Flame went for the field goal as Matt Gravely converted on a 28-yard field goal to give Pickens its only score.

Clark led the Blue Flame with 69 yards on 25 carries and Aakil Sitton rushed for 55 yards, including a 38-yard run. Turner passed for 147 yards for Pickens. Andy McCall threw for 255 yards and four touchdowns and ran for another score for the Lions. Oglesby’s 53 yards on one carry led Daniel’s rushing attack.
