EASLEY – Local actors will take center stage at the Easley Foothills Playhouse next week as they get set to perform Arthur Miller’s Tony Award winning play, The Crucible.
Play Director Anna DeVault said 20 actors from the upstate will help bring the production to life through the end of the month at the playhouse, located at West End Hall in Easley.
The play will run from Oct. 17 to Oct. 27.
The show will feature Dave LaPage (BJU’s The Comedy of Errors, Faust) as John Proctor, Elby Bruce (EFP’s Three Murders and It’s Only Monday, Gold Frankincense, Christmas Tree Ornaments and Myrrh, Witness for the Prosecution) as Elizabeth Proctor and Bethany Irwin (CU’s Jane Eyre) as Abigail Williams, creating the three pivotal characters of this drama.
DeVault said The Crucible is a historical play based on events of the Salem witchcraft trials and takes place in a small Puritan village in the colony of Massachusetts in 1692.
“It evokes a lethal brew of illicit sexuality, fear of the supernatural and political manipulation, a combination not unfamiliar these days and probably why it continues to fascinate audiences today,” DeVault said. “The Crucible” is considered one of the most important dramas of the last century and continues to thrill and affect audiences today. (It’s) a story that lingers in the mind long after the curtain falls.”
Show times are Oct. 17-19 (Thursday-Saturday) at 8 p.m., Oct. 20 (Sunday) at 3 p.m., Oct. 25-26 (Friday-Saturday) at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 27 at 3 p.m.
Tickets are available at www.showtix4u.com or by box-office phone at 864-855-1817.
DeVault said $10 RUSH tickets may be purchased the day of show while seats last. Students and teachers with ID will be offered the Rush ticket price for all performances.
