CLEMSON – The Clemson City Police Department needs the public’s help to locate a Pickens man who attacked a woman outside her apartment on Aug. 9, dragged her inside and choked her until she was unconscious.


Police Chief Jimmy Dixon said they are looking for Charnel Wayne Johnson, a white male described as being 5-foot-11 and weighing 175 pounds. His last known address was in the city of Pickens.


According to reports, a female reported she was outside of her apartment at Falls Landing Apartments on Old Central Road when someone came up behind her and dragged her into the apartment. The incident happened around 8:45 p.m.


Once inside, the woman was choked until she was unconscious. When she regained consciousness, she saw that the man was still in her apartment and was trying to steal her television set. When he realized she was conscious, he ran.


Warrants charging him with first-degree burglary and assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature have been signed, Dixon said in a release.


Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Johnson is asked to call Clemson City Police Department at 864-624-2000. Callers can remain anonymous.
