PICKENS — The Pickens County Museum of Art and History will host art classes with instructor Jo Johnston starting Jan. 21. Johnston worked as commercial artist for 30 years. A graduate of Orangeburg-Calhoun Tech, she has also taught drawing, watercolor, and acrylic painting at Johnston County Community Technical College.
Sketching from Nature — Part 1
Learn to sketch, draw, and paint in this class. Easy exercises designed for beginners and those who want to brush up on their skills will feature both technique and creativity. Students will work with pencil, pen, and watercolor to fill a sketchbook with interesting subjects found in nature. A supplies list will be furnished and explained at the first class. Tuition is $88 and $78 for museum members.
A minimum number of five and a maximum number of eight students can be enrolled for this class. Classes: 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 21, Jan. 28, Feb. 4, Feb. 11, Feb. 18 and Feb. 25.
Sketching For New Techniques
This session will feature reviews from the first series of classes and introduce several new techniques for creative expression. Students will choose from a range of subjects to add to their sketchbooks and practice with a selection of media. Some new supplies may be suggested as the class progresses. Participation in a previous Sketchbook Series is required. Tuition is $88 for non-museum members and $78 for museum members. A minimum number of five and a maximum number of eight students can be enrolled for this class. Classes: 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 23, Jan. 30, Feb. 6, Feb. 13, Feb. 20 and Feb. 27.
