PICKENS — A double murder rocked this Upstate community Monday morning after a neighborhood shooting left two people dead, including a former head football coach at Pickens High School.
Albert Leon Bowen, 64, of 412 Gilliland Road, was taken into custody at his home and charged with two counts of murder and two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime, according to warrants.
Bowen is accused of gunning down William Carson Isaacs Jr. and Dickie Ray Stewart in the yard of a residence on North Homestead Road near the intersection of Gilliland Road, just off U.S. 178. North Homestead Road and Gilliland Road intersect and border Bowen’s property on two sides.
The School District of Pickens County issued a statement Monday afternoon on the passing of Isaacs, one of the winningest coaches in the history of Pickens High School football.
“Bill Isaacs is fondly remembered in Pickens County as the winningest coach in the history of Blue Flame Football,” the district stated. “His impact as a coach and as an educator cannot be overstated. The list of his accomplishments is long, including 181 wins and nine region championships, but his legacy is in the lives he enriched during his 27-year tenure at Pickens High School.
“We are shaken and heart-broken at his death, and we extend our deepest sympathies to both the Isaacs family and the Blue Flame family,” the statement added.
