Molly Kissiah as Little Red Riding Hood in Into the Woods, premiering July 17 at Easley’s Foothills Playhouse, a musical romp through the imagination in make believe.

EASLEY — The city of Easley and all of Pickens County will see fairy tale magic come to life on July 17 as Easley’s Foothills Playhouse premieres its production of Into the Woods with an 8 p.m. opening curtain.

A musical adaptation combining characters from the fairy tales so many know, Into the Woods takes a different spin by bringing these characters together for a common goal, precipitated by a witch, which is as it should be.

The Big Bad Wolf, Little Red Riding Hood, the Baker and his wife, Jack of beanstalk fame, Cinderella, and even Sleeping Beauty all make an appearance in the show, with each playing a role, beyond the one on stage, in propelling the witch’s agenda while helping one another.

In short, the witch tasks a childless baker and his wife with procuring magical items from classic fairy tales to reverse the curse put on their family tree.

But in the end you will have to buy a ticket to find out if the plan comes together and to discover the answers to such questions as these: Will Grandma be eaten by the Big Bad Wolf? Does Rapunzel let down her hair or does Cinderella get her Prince?

Directed by Sherri Dunlap, Into the Woods is a wholesome musical suitable for theater fans of all ages. Laughs, music and even the occasional moment of tension add to the story and make the show a worthwhile see.

“The cast and crew have been working very hard. We are very excited to be bringing this production to the Easley stage,” Dunlap said. “Into the Woods brings several fairy tales together and is filled with humanity and humor. The audience will not be disappointed.”

The show will run the weekends of July 17 through July 19 and the following weekend of July 24 through July 26. Friday and Saturday shows will raise the curtain at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday showings will open at 3 p.m. for a matinee. Tickets may be purchased either by phone or through the theater’s website at www.fhplayhouse.com.
