PICKENS — Blue Ridge Baptist Church, 745 Wolf Creek Road in Pickens, will celebrate its 100th anniversary on Oct. 9 and is asking all church members and descendants of those who formed the church to attend.

The service will be at 10 a.m.

Minutes from Griffin Baptist Church, dated Sept. 9, 1916, stated that Brother G.W. Lesley asked that the deacons of Griffin go to the Glassy Mountain schoolhouse on the Saturday night before the first Sunday in October to help organize a church.

On October 3, 1916,

A meeting was held Oct. 3, 1916, and the newly organized church was given the name Blue Ridge View Baptist and the Rev. J. G. Stacey was elected to be the first pastor. The first deacons appointed were Sparks Childs, John Lesley and Early Atkins.

On Oct. 8, 1916, letters of transfer from Griffin were granted to the following named brethren and sisters: G.W. Lesley, W.D. Lesley, J.E. Lesley, Frank Pace, Eunice Atkins, Etta Lesley, Nancy Lesley, Corrie Pace, Letha Pace, Eunna Pace, Kate Pace, L.A. Jones and Clifford Martin Garrett.
