SENECA — In yet another disappointing loss, the Pickens Blue Flame fell to Seneca 38-20 on Friday, sinking their record to 1-4 for the 2016 season.

The problem for Pickens is that it’s not going to get any easier anytime soon. Friday’s Seneca (3-3) game was just the first in a series of tough on-the-road games.

This week Pickens has to play Greenville (4-1) — who is no doubt a little sore about their loss to Easley last Friday. Following that game, it’s on to Belton Honea-Path (5-1).

While the Pickens offense has been able to put up some points, their defense has been inconsistent and ineffective.

Missed tackles, failure to block and poor pass defense has resulted in a season where other teams have been able to put up points at their leisure. It’s a problem that must be addressed if the Blue Flame is to tack up any more wins in their schedule this season.

Pickens doesn’t return home until Oct. 14 when they take on Wren — another team that has been struggling this season. Traveler’s Rest followed by 3-2 Daniel (both also at home) round out the year.

Pickens at Greenville kicks off at 7:30 p.m.
