A former Troup County Sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed Wednesday night following a fight with a man in the 300 block of Bill Taylor Road.

Troup County Sheriff James Woodruff said the victim, Wesley Gaddy, 42, of Pine Mountain, went to a house on Bill Taylor Road in Pine Mountain Wednesday night around 11 p.m. for an unknown reason. Shortly after Gaddy arrived at the house, he acted as if he was going to leave, then turned around and got into a fight with resident Asa Hall, 69, of Pine Mountain.

As the two scuffled on the ground, Woodruff said the man’s wife, Tara Hall, 43, grabbed a gun and shot Gaddy. Gaddy was shot twice in the side and once in the head. Woodruff said the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to investigate the shooting.

Gaddy, a former drug investigator with the TCSO, resigned from the sheriff’s office in July 2013 after 16 years of service.
