A former Troup County Sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed Wednesday night following a fight with a man in the 300 block of Bill Taylor Road.

Troup County Sheriff James Woodruff said the victim, Wesley Gaddy, 42, went to a house on Bill Taylor Road Wednesday night for an unknown reason. Shortly after Gaddy arrived at the house, he became involved in a fight with a man outside of the home.

Woodruff said a short scuffle ensued, and the man went back into his house. Gaddy then allegedly broke into the house and continued fighting with the man, whose identity was unknown at press time.

As the fight continued, Woodruff said the man’s wife grabbed a gun from inside the house and shot Gaddy. Gaddy was shot twice in the side and once in the head. Woodruff said the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to investigate the shooting.

Gaddy, a former investigator with the TCSO, resigned from the sheriff’s office in July 2013. No further details were available at press time.
